Youth Summer Camps

Summer Camps and Program Registration

Our summer programs are great for anyone who wants to start or progress their bike skills. Mountain, Gravel and Enduro focused camps are led by professionally trained instructors who have background checks and safety certifications.

Plus you don’t need a bike to participate - we have rental bikes available for any of our programs.

Adults get to have fun too! Explore the PNW trails and get 20% off Gravel, Mountain, or E-Bikes rentals while your kids are in camp (be sure reserve in advance for best availability). Check out Things to Do for more activity suggestions for parents and siblings during camps.

We encourage carpooling and offer a discount for multiple students, so sign up a friend!

Rider Levels

We have classes for riders of all levels. Please select the class that fits your riding ability and style.

Beginner: A rider who has little or no experience riding a mountain bike on trails. They may lack confidence and basic skills such as braking, shifting, cornering, and balancing. They may need to walk their bike on steep, rocky, or technical sections. They have low to moderate fitness level and can ride for up to an hour at a time.

Intermediate: A rider who has some experience riding a mountain bike on trails. They have developed some skills such as braking, shifting, cornering, and balancing, but may still struggle with more challenging terrain. They can ride on most trails, but may avoid very steep, rocky, or technical sections. They have moderate to high fitness level and can ride for up to two hours at a time.

Advanced: A rider who has a lot of experience riding a mountain bike on trails. They have mastered the skills of braking, shifting, cornering, and balancing, and can handle any terrain, including very steep, rocky, or technical sections. They can ride on any trail and enjoy challenging themselves. They have high fitness level and can ride for more than two hours at a time.

The Line was founded on the principle that everybody belongs on bikes. We welcome everyone to participate in our programs, and we expect participants and coaches alike to respect one another with zero tolerance for harrassment, bullying, or discrimination.
Please read our Inclusivity Commitment for more details.

Inclusivity Commitment

  • Bikes

    • Campers need to have a bike, but your child doesn’t need to own their bike. Campers can rent an appropriate bike from The Line. Please see the section below for more information on the right type of bikes for these classes.

    • If Campers bring their own bike, it needs to be in safe working condition. Please follow the bike checklist below or bring the bike into The Line prior to the camp for a complimentary safety check.

  • Gear

Riding classes require the following equipment. Let us know if you need help accessing equipment.

    • Helmet- Must be CPSC or Snell certified.  (See label inside of helmet)

    • Sturdy shoes-for walking and biking (no open-toed shoes or sandals)

Required Equipment for class

What Bikes are Right?

We can guide you to the right type of bike for the way you ride - just ask!

We have bikes available to rent or lease that are perfect for the classes. We will help you get all set up on the equipment and show you its proper use. If you need any help with a bike, please let us know as soon as possible.

Our instructors always work to ensure camper groups stay together and that everyone has fun. However, your child will have more fun at the Trail Blazers or Intro to Gravel Grinder camps if they ride a hardtail, gravel, or hybrid bike.

Our intermediate and advanced Mountain Bike classes will be a better experience on a full suspension bike with a shock and fork. We also recommend a seat dropper post for the more advanced mountain bike programs.

Most bikes should be newer than 10 years old and be in good repair with a recently serviced suspension. If you aren’t sure if your bike is right for the job please contact us early!

  • Many of us started biking on a trusty hybrid bike and rode it everywhere. These bikes are appropriate for our Wheel Wanderers Adventure Camp, Intro Gravel Grinder Adventure, as well as our Trail Blazers Intro To Mountain Biking camp, especially for younger kids.

  • Gravel bikes look like a road bike with thicker tires. These do-it-all bikes come in a variety of shapes and geometries. Some have flat bars, and some have curly drop bars. These bikes are perfect for our Gravel Bike Instructor-In-Training, Intro Gravel Grinder, and Wheel Wanderers camps. Any mountain bike will work for our gravel programs, although they don’t tend to be as efficient for the gravel trails we will be riding. We will accommodate the differences though, so don’t worry!

Appropriate Bikes for Camps

  • Hardtail means no rear shock, just a front fork. These trusty steeds can handle most riding and are efficient to pedal. These bikes are appropriate for most of our camps. If your child is registered for one of our Enduro-focused camps or our Mountain bike focused leadership programs, they should be comfortable riding blue and some black trails on their hardtails.

  • Full suspension means front fork and rear shock asorber.

Bikes with 120-140 mm of travel (compression) in the suspension are the workhorses of our local trails. These bikes will perform great in all of our classes.

Short and Mid Travel bikes will be less efficient on pavement or gravel, the primary riding surface for our Intro Gravel Grinder or Wheel Wanderers camps.

However, our instructors will ensure the camp group stays together, and everyone has a great time.

Bike Checklist: - If you’re bringing your own bike, please check the following before class:

  • Kickstand: Please remove kickstand prior to class; they can be a hazard off road and on features.

  • Air pressure/Tires: Tire pressure should be appropriate for the weight of the rider. We can help if you have questions!

  • Chain and Drive Train: Look for rust or gummed up areas that may need to be cleaned and lubed. The gears should all work without issues.

  • Brakes: Roll your bike, apply each brake separately checking for stopping ability.  Make sure brake pads are not worn out. We recommend disc brakes for most of our programs. If you don’t have disc brakes, we suggest bringing the bike to our shop prior to class so we can take a look and ensure it will be safe for the terrain.
